I was shopping for groceries the other day when I found a Fuchs mix for Golden Milk. Fuchs is a spice company and golden milk is a traditional warm drink from India. I’ve never been to India, but I have been to an Indian restaurant here in Bucharest, and I remembered the taste of this drink long after I’d forgotten its name.

I read about it in an article written by an Indian woman while looking up the health benefits of turmeric, and so when I saw the Golden Milk mix at the store, I lunged for it.

Yesterday I had my first homemade cup of this drink. I’m supposed to be heating the spices along with the milk, but even mixed with warm milk the drink is gorgeous — and, of course, incredibly healthy, as the spice mix contains turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.

But I was doing it wrong.

I knew turmeric and ginger are quite powerful, so I used half a teaspoon to a teaspoon, thinking I was using less than recommended on the back of the spice mix packet.

Not knowing any better, I made it the same way a second time today and, following that, shared it with two friends. I told them about it being an Indian drink…
