E. Jean Carroll and I — and possibly you, too — share a similar experience
I found this graphic on Facebook yesterday and reposted it with this description:
“Do not think that E. Jean Carroll was ONLY out for the money. The money was secondary to getting her life back. Getting the money must feel good, but the idea was that Trump cares so much about money that having less of it might get him to stop defaming her.”
In case you’ve not been following the news, here’s a summary of the three civil cases E. Jean Carroll has brought against Donald Trump:
- The first trial was in November, 2019. It was for defamation rather than rape because the statute of limitations prevented Carroll from having him charged with rape. Trump managed to delay and tie up this one, so ...
- Carroll sued him a second time in May, 2023. This time, the jury found that Trump was liable for sexual battery and defamation and fined him $5 million. (Note this was for sexual battery, not rape, because there were no witnesses. But I ask you, how many rapists ask other people to watch?) Five million dollars was not enough to get Trump to stop defaming Carroll, however, so …
