This Year’s Results

Instead of next year’s resolutions

I don’t know about you, but I hate ‘goals’. It’s like saying, “Here are things you should be doing.” They add unnecessary stress to my day.

I obviously don’t do New Year’s Resolutions. Bah! Humbug!

I tend to be the type of person who evaluates what I’ve accomplished this past year, then make changes where needed.

Example:

In 2022, I signed up for a novel-writing challenge where I had to turn in six novels in twelve months. I did it.

In 2023, I was not involved in a challenge, and didn’t write anything new.

Review: I need deadlines, someone holding me accountable, and sometimes it helps to have money on the line. (I paid to be in the challenge) These things motivate me.

A list of goals or resolutions do not motivate me.

So, for 2024, I signed up for another challenge. And I know from past experiences that I will get new books written in 2024.

You can’t only know what you want, you have to know what motivates you to get there.

Instead of plotting and planning the year ahead, review what you’ve accomplished this past year. Reflect on your successes.
