Food rules? What the heck?

But if you have any, you know what I mean.

For example, as a child we weren’t allowed to have our elbows on the table or chew with open mouths, which meant, not talking with a mouth full of food as well.

There are religious and cultural ‘rules’ or traditions regarding food.

My family’s Jewish, but we never kept Kosher. However, my mom’s assisted living center does. This means dairy and animal flesh aren’t cooked or served together. So they had dairy days, usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the rest of the week was meat.

But no pork, ever. We handled the bacon cravings at Scotties, a nearby breakfast-all-day eatery!

Anyone who’s vegan or vegetarian has rules about meat and/or dairy. Then there are food allergies and conditions like diabetes that dictate eating habits.

But I’m most interested in the ones we impose upon ourselves. Rules like no food after 8 pm. Or no processed foods, white flour, or sugar.

Which brings me to this week’s Middle-Pause Pump Priming Prompt: Given this is a time…

We are the voices of women who encourage, inspire, and empower each other to live lives of meaning and purpose. We are women in the middle.
