At a time like right now — which feels like a time out of time — new and different questions come to light. At a time like right now, life may be limited in many ways: Work may be on hold temporarily or permanently.

Loved ones have to be kept at a distance — out of arms reach. Hugs and other forms of touching and caring and healing become risky behaviors.

Creative pursuits may be limited due to finances, access, or other challenges. Perhaps you’re starting over in a new field — writing perhaps. More time and less money necessitate new ways of doing things or new things to do.

Some of you face new and old hardships while staring at the barrel of the COVID gun up close and personal. School attendance decisions, for example. Or chronic health issues further complicated by COVID.

Like my friend whose tumor has returned and we can’t go hug him on one of his good days. Now he goes masked and alone to chemotherapy treatments.

This is a friend who found meaning in giving spiritual talks, leading workshops, and hosting soirees — which went from live to Zoom. That’s hard enough. Now they’re…
