Ball swishes through net.

Perfectly, round and bouncy,

Lots of memories

The story behind the poem

Basketball, often during the summer, has been like a best friend at certain moments in my life.

The first game I ever remember was a thrilling summertime triple-overtime NBA Finals game in 1976, featuring the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns.

Wow, you’re exciting basketball.

I couldn’t get out of the house fast enough to reenact those lost second shots during those June nights.

Father-son bonding

Then there are those wonderful Tuesday and Saturday 1970s night memories of watching in the rickety SUNY-Fredonia…
