I Want To Write Books

To help others

June 14th: Do you want to write a book? If yes, what’s it going to be about? If not, why not?

The answer to today’s prompt is yes I want to write a book. I’ve co-authored a few and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of interacting with some brilliant writers.

In the meantime, of course, I have been participating in the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November every year since 2011, and have become quite the expert at unfinished drafts. Oh, there were years in between when I ghost-wrote books for clients during November, taking advantage of the self-imposed discipline.

About my own drafts, though, over the years, I’ve created:

1. The complete wellness guide for women

2. Eating well with diabetes

3. How to manage type 2 diabetes

4. Coffee with Mi — a memoir celebrating memories with my mom

5. A series of short health guides

6. The little book of short mindfulness meditations

7. Gratitude journal prompts

8. The little book of inspiring short stories with questions for reflection

I know I will eventually publish these. I do have a healthy draft of all of these.

My dream for the wellness guide for women

…is to create a comprehensive layperson’s guide with everyday health tips. From, this, I would like to create short booklets, translated into local languages, (we have at least 22 in India, as per the eighth constitution) and collaborate with the government health centers to create awareness and educate.

The books about diabetes

I want to help others show their diabetes who’s boss. It is possible to manage blood sugar levels with exercise, diet, some simple lifestyle changes, and minimal oral medication where warranted. While there is a lot of information online, we often do not find the answers we are looking for. The doctors are not always forthcoming, either. Hence the vision of helping others.

When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2014, I remember feeling cheated but I pulled myself up quickly. I was determined to turn the situation around, and have done it. I want others who are afraid of diabetes to understand that there is nothing to be afraid of. I have a health blog where one section is dedicated to living with diabetes and another blog where I post quick life hacks for diabetics.

The memoir

I started my blog Coffee With Mi when my mom passed away in 2010. There were things I could talk to her about that no one else would understand. My idea was to heal through writing and eventually turn the blog into a book — a tribute to the precious time we had together with anecdotes, illustrations by me, and recipes. The book cover is ready to keep me motivated.

Book of gratitude prompts

We know that gratitude is transformative. But getting into the habit of practicing it every day can seem challenging. My book of gratitude prompts will gently encourage people of all age groups to enjoy practicing gratitude.

Quick meditations

Who has the time to sit down and meditate? Or rather, who will willingly acknowledge that they have the time? My book of quick mindfulness meditations is designed for everyone out there.

Inspiring short stories with questions for reflection

Who doesn’t like a story with a wonderfully delivered life lesson? It puts us in the frame of mind to reflect and I will offer that nudge via the questions.
