My Success to Failure Final Year Journey: How I Earned Over 6k per content
My story shows how one could experience success before failure
Whatever you decide, you face the consequences. I chose to attend Unilorin and I’m now in my final year.
Even though academia affected me intellectually and destroyed my self-concept, I earned at least six thousand Naira for a written content over these past 7 months.
So, dear students reading this, I do have some valuable lessons I can share with you. Keep reading my story to know them.
The Sweeter Part of My Final Year: The First Semester Success Story
In the beginning, I easily managed writing and school. My daily activities usually included school classes, project plans, and a career enhancement cohort led by a marketer.
During my free time, I organized my school notes or discussed with Satabi, an international client who eventually hired me to ghostwrite. That gig paid $120.
Soon after the cohort, my colleagues and I under our supervisor’s guidance started executing the project plans.
Around that time, another marketer, Blessing, asked me to manage her LinkedIn account. I’d wake up before 6 AM to engage her account then go to the farm if our project timetable said so.
At this stage, balancing my academics and career was averagely easy.
I was only worried about the money my parent invested into the project, satisfying Blessing, attracting more high-paying clients (to ensure I could rely on my writing business after school) and living in peace.
The Failure (My Failure to Success Story)
My major regrets are neglecting my health before my first semester exams and not starting my project writing earlier.
Reoccurring consistent headaches forced me to visit the clinic. And while I sat on the waiting chair, reality hit me: my future depended on my academic results. The problem was my sickness, later found to be malaria, reduced the amount of information I could remember. It was like I now had a basket for a memory.
In the second semester, I tried stabilizing my mental health. I wrote several LinkedIn content so that my brain could receive the dopamine it needed to stay happy. However, this led me to my lowest-paying client (6k naira per content). Worse, my living conditions and little power supply in school heavily downplayed my efforts.
I thought my school project write-up would require the same amount of energy as the website and social media content I usually write. So, I first focused on the new client requests.
As soon as I began writing my school project, I realized that I had underestimated the effort required. This resulted in me spending almost two weeks writing the project, receiving several corrections from my supervisor, and experiencing a few nights and days of panic.
I was worried about disappointing the client, jeopardizing my CGPA and damaging my reputation.
