Every now and then, life throws you a moment that makes you laugh and say, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

My daughter recently matched with someone on a dating app. Early in their chat, he noticed a photo of her with her brother and asked, “How do you know Jack?” (not his real name). She thought maybe he went to college with her brother.

Then he said he’d done a double take on one of her photos because he recognized Jack. Turns out they’d been friends as preteens and took karate together over fifteen years ago, back when we lived in Massachusetts. He still remembered the names of their senseis.
