As the morning sun arises
from its bed beyond the trees,
pale colours stretch across the sky
as far as my eyes can see.

The rustling leaves share gossip
that is only for my ears,
and Nature whispers secrets
that she’s kept for many years.

Telling tales of ancient wonders,
about things no longer known.
Of how mankind’s mismanaged Earth
and no remorse has shown.

Gnarled roots embedded in the ground,
entwined in centuries past,
have been here since the dawn of time,
but this may be their last.

A gentle breeze disturbs the leaves,
it stirs a bird to song.
I am in awe in Nature’s midst,
how can we do such wrong?

Laughter’s carried on the stream,
so-called a ‘babbling brook,’
over stones worn smooth by time,
but it makes me sad to look.
