The Odd Sock Revolution
In response to: The Day My Left Sock Filed for Independence
It began very quietly.
At first, it was virtually unnoticed and attributed to the normal process of the occasional sock going missing among the copious amounts of laundry items that require washing, or perhaps inadvertently left languishing inside a shoe from when it was last worn, or underneath the bed.
Maybe a left sock this time, and a right sock the next.
We blame it on the washing machine, the clothes dryer, or some dastardly clothes line preying sock thief. But generally, we expect the missing sock to one day rematerialise, or we give up looking and just wear a different complete pair.
Strangely, if both socks of a pair disappeared simultaneously, it may not even be noticed for some time. Odd socks, however, is a different story — especially when one morning you pull out the sock drawer to discover it is full (or half full) of odd socks only. One of every pair has miraculously vanished.
This happened to me! I kid you not. I think a number of my socks have joined a revolution. One minute, I had a drawer full of sock pairs; the next … several singles staring out at me forlornly and missing their mates.
