Monstrous — A Love Story
Part Two: Adam’s Poem
A second tale of the love between Elizabeth Lavenza and Victor Frankenstein’s monster.
Held so deep in those dark, shadowed eyes,
So much pain,
“A monster,” they called you, “devil-made”;
Ran away;
Shouted taunts, angry cries,
Haunt your dreams, fill the night
With their fury and spite;
Save one voice —
A song in the darkness,
A star in the night,
Angelic purity
Just beyond reach;
A dove in the firmament,
Soaring above,
While you watch from below in the mire and the muck —
The face in the mirror is deep-scarred with grief;
Rage-puckered brows,
Sorrow-born furrows mar time-seared cheek.
Fathomless now,
The pity and dread;
Her bones shattered, scattered;
She calls from the dead,
In that voice —
