Guidelines for General Submissions
Midnight Mosaic is a publication for dark and weird fiction. We accept short stories, flash fiction, poetry, and other forms of mixed-genre work.
Our goal is to publish the best work from authors who mix Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Weird/New Weird with skill. We also accept Romance and Erotica, as long as it has strange or dark elements included.
The best way to determine if your work fits at Midnight Mosaic Fiction is to read our back catalog and send us a submission. Beautiful writing with a dark or odd spin will likely win us over, regardless of format. If you can tell an original and compelling story, we want to read it!
How to Submit
For General Submissions:
Midnight Mosaic Fiction prefers use of our General Submission Form for submitting your work. This allows us to better organize and review all incoming submissions in a timely manner. If you want your work to be read quickly, then help us help you and use the form!
If you are already a writer for Midnight Mosaic Fiction, you can add your pieces directly through Medium. However, it is not our preferred method, and may result in a longer review process.
If your story isn’t quite complete or if you want to request editorial help, feel free to email at MidnightMosaicFiction@Gmail.com.
If you are submitting for an Event / Contest / Challenge:
Go to the Event Announcement Page and find the event-specific submission form. If you can’t find it, please email us or leave a comment on this piece.
Turnaround time for submissions depends on event activity and backlog for publication. In general, you can expect to hear from an editor within five (5) business days regarding your acceptance. If a week goes by and we haven’t reached out, feel free to inquire by email. The interwebs is a tricky beast, and sometimes (though rarely) submissions don’t make it all the way to us.
Pay
If you are seeking income for your work, we recommend placing your pieces behind the Medium Paywall to earn based on your story’s popularity with readers. Midnight Mosaic Fiction does not receive any sort of income for the work you post at our publication; however, posting your work in our publication means more exposure, editorial assistance, and team promotion on social media. At this time, we are unable to provide any direct payment to authors.
Rights
By submitting works to our publication you agree that it is original, of your own composition, and that you have all the relevant rights to do so.
If your work is accepted, you agree to give Midnight Mosaic Fiction first serial electronic rights to your work and nonexclusive electronic and print rights. You are agreeing to let us archive your work on our website and to include it in future publications and anthologies.
Your work is yours, but we will continue to have the right to share it.
If your piece has been previously published elsewhere you agree that you have informed us and give Midnight Mosaic Fiction the right to republish, print, and archive the work (and that you have the right to do so).
All other rights revert to the author upon publication.
If you publish the work elsewhere in the future, we ask that credit be given Midnight Mosaic Fiction for first publication.

Tips for those new to Medium
- Engagement and support is the name of the game. If you read something and like it, let the author know: You can clap up to 50 times per piece you read. Comment with why you liked the piece or what it brought up for you as a reader. Share the piece on social media so it receives more exposure. And follow the writer so you can read more of their wonderful work.
- The Medium Partnership Program allows you to lock your work behind a paywall, earn money based on claps, and puts it in queue to be reviewed by Medium staff for curation. If you lock a piece, it is only available to paying members of the site, however you’ll have access to a “Friend-Link” that you can share as many times as you like, allowing non-paying members to access it without using one of their 3-free-reads-per-month. This will bring more readers to your work, encourage people to follow you, and show non-members why they should join!
- Every Medium link posted on Twitter turns into a friend-link. If you’re not on Twitter, we highly recommend it if you’re looking to improve your Medium exposure and access. There is also a superb community of writers over there and it’s a great way to build a circle of support and play fun writing games to get your creative juices flowing.
- Looking for our Homepage? Publication navigation is a little strange and a bit limited. There are tabs for all of our feature pages, but to get back to the actual homepage, go up to the top left and click our picture next to the Medium ‘M’ Logo.
