TP-Link Tapo P110M Review
The Tapo P110M is an affordable and feature-rich smart plug from TP-Link. It builds on their popular P110 model by adding support for Matter, the new smart home interoperability standard backed by Amazon, Apple, Google and others. This allows the plug to integrate with a wider range of smart home platforms and voice assistants.
At just £17, the compact Tapo P110M offers capabilities more commonly found in higher-end models. It has previously been discounted to just £10.
You can turn connected devices on and off remotely via the Tapo app, as well as set schedules, countdown timers and away modes. It also supports voice control through Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. One handy feature is energy monitoring, which tracks real-time and historical usage data for connected devices. This can give estimates of energy costs based on electricity rates you enter. However, this doesn’t currently work when connected over Matter, only via the Tapo app directly.
The Tapo P110M retains the small form factor of the P110, meaning it doesn’t block the second outlet when plugged in. Setup is quick and easy through the Tapo app, with no hub required. It uses proven encryption for secure control of devices on your local network.
The plug has worked well across multiple smart home platforms thanks to Matter support. However, some limitations were noted when linking platforms simultaneously, with the Tapo app needed for initial setup before connecting to other ecosystems. At the time of writing, when using Matter, you are unable to get the energy data, but this should be fixed with future updates.
Overall, as one of the first Matter-enabled smart plugs available, the Tapo P110M makes an affordable way to future-proof your smart home. Key strengths are broad platform support, energy tracking features and compact size. With typical Tapo quality and reliability, it’s a recommended option for smart plug buyers.
