War, famine, drugs, violence, poverty, and corruption are the main culprits of the current migrant crisis that the world is facing. People from countries like Syria, Mexico, Myanmar, and parts of Africa have left their homes and families in search of a better life. Countries like Canada, Germany, Sweden, Greece, and Italy (until their change of government a few months ago), have been championing the migrant support effort by taking in hundreds of thousands of migrants and asylum seekers.

Host countries that have been very accepting of migrants have faced difficulties of their own. It can be quite challenging to properly integrate migrants, providing living spaces and basic needs such as identification and employment.

Complicating matters further, migrants often do not use consulting agencies and such avenues that can facilitate the immigration process. This is due to high service fees ranging anywhere from $5000 to $20,000, which adds to distrust in existing systems. An affordable and reliable third-party vetting system could save government immigration agencies much time and resources.

This is where Migranet comes in.

What is Migranet?

Migranet is a migration platform for migrants and refugees across the world and is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain. At its core, it aims to present a one-stop solution to migrants and accredited migration practitioners by automating the processing of migration applications. Migranet’s mission is to optimize immigration-related processes through the use of AI, biometrics, cryptocurrency, and blockchain technology. The Migranet platform will improve speed, fairness, accuracy, and accountability throughout the global migration system.

Why Migranet?

Many highly qualified individuals around the world prefer to migrate to a different country in search of better opportunities for themselves and their families. Conversely, when a group of people is facing a difficult situation such as war, famine, poverty, crime, or systematic marginalization, they have less choice involved in making the difficult decision of leaving their homes, families, and countries behind in search of a better life. In both cases however, the selection of immigration class systems and the application process can be challenging for most, and as mentioned above, utilizing consulting companies to aid in the process is out of a majority of migrants’ price range.

Another unfortunate issue arises when the slow democratic process of documentation and rehabilitation of these new citizens causes delays that they cannot afford. These delays can create situations that lead to them being denied some of the most basic necessities such as jobs and homes. Furthermore, they are frequently exploited and often face bigotry even after they are accepted into a community. These problems can force them to resort to crime or cause them to have to move again. As a reaction to this violation of rights, aspiring immigrants from developing countries may use illegal means to become residents of their countries of choice.

Another issue is the lack of a proper tracking system for migrants and refugees. Countries that provide asylum to these people face problems such as complex logistics and the high costs associated with accepting an individual with proper documentation, or having to provide documentation. The current wave of globalization has caused international migrant crises. The systems in place are failing and it is imperative that the world adopt a more modern platform. Migranet will provide a time efficient and cost effective solution that dramatically lowers fees while accounting for the diversity of different regions and their unique legislation, all on one platform.

How will it work?

Migranet is a powerful and all-encompassing system. The first step to the migration process through Migranet is to submit your credentials to the Migranet network. Credentials will be assessed by the Migranet AI to identify countries you may already meet the eligibility criteria for — these services are provided free of cost. The user can pick a country out of the options provided to them by the Migranet AI after careful assessment. Once you’ve picked a country, the system gets to work. The AI prototype can be accessed here.

A fee of $500 for permanent residence or $150 for temporary residence, work and student visas will be charged at this step. Payment is processed to the equivalent amount of USD via the Migranet’s utility tokens, MIGs. After the payment has been processed, the application is submitted to the relevant government visa intake office.

Not every situation is identical and there are some cases where legal advice and intervention is required. Examples of these cases are appeals, asylum, and family class applications. Migranet will collaborate with law firms across the world to provide legal advice and intervention for their users when needed. Migranet will assign a biometric-based ID to every migrant which will be stored on the blockchain. Blockchain storage is immutable, verifiable, and secure. This means that countries accepting these migrants will also be able to access their identification, biometric, and personal data through Migranet’s use of the blockchain.

An important concern when dealing with such immutable information is privacy and the right to be forgotten. Migranet will not be storing the private information of individuals such as their names, date of birth, and country of origin. Instead, only a hash of this information will be stored. This will not only allow migrants to protect themselves from fraud and identity theft but will also allow them to avoid any bias due to their origins.

Through its newly developed AI system, Migranet will assist refugees with proper credential verification that will facilitate their resettlement in the host countries. To ensure that there are no issues caused due to a faulty algorithm or a miscalculation, Migranet’s AI will be monitored carefully and wherever there’s a need for human intervention and manual management, Migranet’s competent technical staff will step in.

Once a reliable algorithm has been proved accurate and refined, Migranet will use its AI solution to account for the complex variables involved in migration. These include the multicultural, logistic, medical, geopolitical, biometric, intelligence, humanitarian, economic, sociological, climatological, legal, and national defense issues relative to different parts of the world, all of which experience their own unique conditions. Examples of migration can vary from an engineer from China deciding to emigrate to Canada for better opportunities, to a person from a war-torn country like Syria or Yemen migrating in search of peace. To accommodate the variety of situations, Migranet is currently refining its machine learning algorithm to increase its efficiency.

A Compact Solution

Even though the migrant crisis is a complicated and dynamic process, Migranet is fully capable of tackling all the issues every step of the way. This is possible through a visionary and dedicated team that has considered every possible scenario and continues to look for ways to enhance their knowledge regarding how the world’s migration process differs for various origins and destinations. Through a refined AI and the powerful blockchain, Migranet is fully capable of taking on the challenge and presenting to the world the first ever complete solution to the migration problem that works for everyone. Migranet, migration simplified.

On Feb 05, 2019 Migranet released its AI prototype. It can be accessed at http://migranet.gitetest.com/
