One Week is all it really took for Emma, Mae and Will to feel comfortable in and around the neighborhood. This week we got to explore the city more, get into the groove of school (and work), and also plan out some of the bigger adventures we’ll be taking while here.

As normal, the girls curated their favorite memories from the week, and helped to pick the photos for the most part. As much as we ask Will to participate, he’s just not that interested…

We’re all finding that this trip is giving us more time to spend together, and explore new things. That’s what the kids seem to enjoy the most.

I’ve translated Emma and Mae’s descriptions into legible English :-). Enjoy!

WEEK 2 IN BUENOS AIRES

1. San Telmo Market — on Saturday we went for a walking adventure in the city, and ended our journey at the well known San Telmo market. It was beautiful, and on the way we found lots of cool stuff. But markets like this, with thin pathways and lots of breakable stuff, aren’t really for kids. And thus Will’s dismay to be confined to his stroller pretty much the entire time!

Market sold food and lots of old trinket like stuff
People Happy with coffee, and people who can’t wait for their cookies!
Will hates this Market! he’s confined to a stroller and has to wait around forever….

2. Exploring Buenos Aires — the next set of phots are from our walk to and from the San Telmo Market. We strolled leisurely through the famous Plaza de Mayo at first, but didn’t take any pictures, because to our surprise the plaza was hosting a marijuana rally. After 7 questions in a row about “what is that smell” we just ran as fast as we could. On the way, we shopped, at lunch at a wonderful little restaurant, and did some shopping. Emma got cool new kicks, and the girls actually enjoyed being together :-)

Happy Mom! Happy Mae! We found Mafalda on the street!

3. Longest Street in the World! —We visited 9 de Julio, the widest street in the world (and that has a Washington Memorial too…). Emma and Mae are obsessed with counting the white stripes of the crosswalk. They want the world to know that this is the coolest thing they have done, and that there were 69 white stripes on the longest avenue in the world. (Emma’s previous high in counting crosswalk stripes was 51).

Here’s the Obelisk with BA made of bushes, and here’s us getting ready to count crosswalk stripes.

4. Soccer & Life Around Palermo —We’ve now sampled most of the local cafes, got the girls a soccer ball, and found out that all over the place there are these built in workout stations. In parks but also at intersections, etc. It’s pretty cool, and Emma and Mae want everyone to know!

The soccer clinic is great. Two nights a week and the coaches are very friendly. Emma’s coach speaks no English, and only one girl speaks partial English, so Emma just watches and follows. The other week she didn’t know what team she was on! Mae’s team is 21 kids. 20 boys and Mae. And she does awesome!

Here are Emma and Mae at Soccer clinic
These are the exercise machines, and four kids on a see saw at night is also a form of exercise!

5. Girls First Run (Around the Echo Park) — Sunday it rained and Amy was under the weather. So we had a lazy morning and FaceTimed our families. After lunch it cleared up briefly and Emma and Mae went for their first run with Dad. The goal was 2 miles. They made it (barely and not without tears) but along the way we stopped at an Eco Park, and found these large bunnies, which we called Bingos (although later found that they are called Mara’s).

Here is the beginning of our run, which is important because it didn’t look this easy after this pic.

There’s the Mara…and there’s Emma with her personal “E”

6. Our Friends! — Lastly, we’ve spent a few days with our friends from Boston, who are also here for the spring/summer!

Until next week, we miss everyone!

With Love!
