At the rivers that form the border of Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. Will is Argentina all the way.

Week 5 was our mid-way adventure point, and it was a big adventure indeed! We flew north to Port Iguazu, at the intersection of Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. The falls are amongst the biggest in the world, and in the rain forest. They make Niagara look like a stream :-). We went with Marina and Cassandra and our Friends the D’Ignazio’s (Catherine, Dave, Gus, Orly, and Maggie Jo).

For this week’s recap, we’ll focus on our trip entirely. Aside from that, we had a great week with Auntie Marina and Cassandra, and will share a few pics at the end of places we went.

happy to arrive to a tiny airport! will was sleeping, not shy.

Iguazu Falls (in 4 parts)

Part One: Guamini Mision Hotel — We stayed on the border of Argentina and Paraguay, in an old Jesuit missionary, that was beautiful, serene, with pools and a gorgeous setting. Some highlights from the grounds of the Hotel.

Amy at the end of a morning run at the front of the mision.
some pics of the grounds, and one of the pools that overlooks the river and Paraguay on the other side! (open border BTW :-)
Emma shooting her bow and arrow…socks up!
kids swimming and sun tanning. Mae

Part Two: Iguazu Falls Argentina — The falls are some of the largest in the world, set in the rainforest. Over 80% are in Argentina, and the park is stunning. It’s not over developed, you feel in the forest, which is amazing. Here are pics over two days in this park (which we needed!). One day overcast and one sunny. No particular order, just amazing all around.

These pics are from Devil’s Throat, the very top of the waterfalls. It’s so large it’s hard to explain
some amazing pics of the falls…you can’t see Devil’s throat it’s so far away.
Orly sharing his poncho with Mae! A rewarding nice dinner at Guamini at the end of a long day.
Emma had her first ever cup of coffee (a cappucino!). Mae found Butterflies…and look at those falls.
falls in all their beauty. And the moms (with Emma) who were organizing everything :-)

Part Three: Iguazu Falls Brazil Day Two — The brazil side is much smaller but the views are fantastic. Here I experimented with panorama shots, and we took those crazy boats into the falls themselves. A lot less walking in Brazil, but you can see the power of the falls more clearly…

The sheer power of the falls…
more pics, and a jaguar beer. It was good. And the only beer we drank in Brazil.
here’s a panorama…
and one more.

Part Four: Around Iguazu — These pics are of the end of the journey…and a few outtakes from a morning run. It was an amazing trip all around.

Another pic of us at the flags, and the kids at the platform where the countries meet.
downtown Iguazu…
and finally at the airport ready to head back home…sadly.

And Around Buenos Aires — these last few are highlights from the days before our trip with Aunt Marina and Cassandra! Lots of hotel pool and just playing around Palermo, but we did manage to go see a horse race, and the Famous Teatro Colon, one of the most renowned theaters in the world!

We went to see horse races in the oldest horse track in Argentina. Also full of only old people…
Here is the world famous Teatro Colon. Will loved the tour, until about 8 minutes left when he decided to go Rogue…
kids doing their cool jumps around the widest avenue in the world.
and a final dinner at our favorite local restaurant….because they have chicken fingers and french fries. :-)

We’re back to reality and basics now that our midway holiday week is over. We are adjusting, and also realized that our time is really limited! Here’s to a fun last few weeks down in Buenos Aires.

Love,

Amy, Emma, Mae, Will, Paul

ps: Cute Will Pics Warning

with Emma on the train in the falls. In our hotel room and walking the Guamini….
