The real value of mentorship

Is not being introduced to new information, techniques or higher degrees of expertise.

It is being shown the blind spots eclipsing your current understanding or awareness of what’s already around you — the things you simply cannot see from the position you’re standing in.

New information won’t change your life. Insights into the undercurrent actions, inactions and events of your life that you completely failed to see — yet were impacting you all along — will.

The type of insight that once you see it, it doesn’t just change your behaviour — it alters your very character. A blind spot ceases to be a blind spot the minute you know it exists — from that point on you always know it is there. You’ll never lose that distinction for the rest of your life. Its not something you intellectualised from reading a book, its something you experienced from being shown an entirely new perspective of what was already at play in your life.

Now that’s priceless.
