Hi, I’m Mike Curtis.
“I’m a lucky guy.” ~ Mike Curtis
My World
My wife is a rock star and my boys are both ninjas. Okay, so she’s not literally a rock star, but I hit the jackpot — she is an amazing wife, friend, and mom. And my boys don’t really possess any ninjutsu skills, but they can usually be found bouncing off walls, so they might as well be ninjas.
Work is great, but what I really look forward to is my time with them.
My Career
Me… I’m a UX Designer here in Salt Lake City, UT. I’ve lived here my whole life, nearly four decades, so I can confirm we have the best mountains to hike, the prettiest places to camp, and the strangest weather patterns in the United States. Supposedly we have the greatest snow on Earth, but I don’t ski.
I work as a User Experience Designer for 1–800 Contacts. I’m on their mobile team and spend my days designing customer experiences on our iOS and Android apps. I work with talented developers, driven product managers, and top-notch designers to deliver a highly successful product to the world of contact lens wearers.
I love what I do. I’m meticulous and thoughtful in my design approach. I care about the details and how subtleties affect our users. I’m cognisant of our company’s vision and strive to deliver experiences that adhere to our values.
I also love to teach and mentor whenever I get the chance. I’ve taught and mentored students at Devmountain, a UX Design bootcamp school here in Utah and offer help to co-workers looking to make a career change into user experience.
I speak Portuguese, enjoy photography, and as a random tidbit about me, I never missed a day of school K-12. I went to school—Every. Single. Day.
What I’m Good at Doing
I like to think I’m proficient with the ever-changing design toolset, in particular, Sketch, Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, InVision, Marvel and others.
From a high-level view of my UX background, I have a strong understanding of graphic design, interaction design, user flows, story mapping and rapid prototyping.
Soft Skills are Important Too
I believe it’s important to be a good communicator and listener. I make a concerted, professional effort to present my work in a way that invokes a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
I’m a gritty, loyal, hard-working UX Designer committed to delivering exceptional products in my career.
