ATM three-day ticket will increase from January

Starting in January 2024, the three day tickets for the ATM service will increase from 13 to 15.50 €. The Agenzia per il Trasporto Pubblico Locale del Bacino della Città Metropolitana, which is a non-economic public body that has the responsibility of planning, regulating and controlling the local public transport, and the quality standards of those services, made this decision.

Prices for other tickets are: 2.20 € for ordinary ticket; 7.60 € for the daily ticket; 13.00 € for the three day ticket.

This was decided because the cost of the services exceed the revenue they get for maintenance of the services and the region decided not to cover those costs.

This decision will affect, mainly, tourists because that is the principal sector of people that buy those tickets.

New Prices for public transport 2024

Milan’s public transportation fares may see another hike following the 2.20 euro increase in January. The Assembly of the TPL Basin Agency convened on August 2 to decide on ISTAT adjustments. Subsequently, the Municipality will determine whether to tap into its budget or raise ticket prices, potentially growing by 10 cents starting next year, so the new price would be 2.30 euros.

Controversy mounts in Milan over the prospect of fare hikes. The center-left urges the mayor, Giuseppe Sala, and councilor to advocate with the government and Region for increased resources to public transport, aiming to avert fare increases. Mobility Councilor Arianna Censi asserts that the Municipality has no intention of burdening citizens with the ISTAT adjustment. However, the opposition criticizes the City Council’s move to pass a resolution shifting the cost responsibility to the government and Lombardy Region just before the Agency’s meeting. Lega Councilor Samuele Piscina contends that the Municipality should cover the costs to spare citizens from fare hikes.

What is the state of the M4 line extension to Segrate

The extension of the metro line 4 (M4) is an ongoing project in which technical and economic plans have been approved: this extension will end on the station Segrate. Right now the metro line is able to use it from Linate Airport Station to San Babila Station and vice versa. Also this new version of the M4 line will include stops at Idroscalo-San Felice and Segrate that will arrive directly from the Linate airport. This project is very important due to the fact that it allows to connect the municipality close to MIlan with the city and the airport. The total estimated cost of this project was around 470 million euros, it will be proposed at the three year public works plan 2024–2026. It will benefit from the 3.5 million euro European tender that the municipality of Milan was awarded. Also for the extension obtained 420 million euros as funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. So around 45 millions are left to find. therefore appears the risk that the work times may increase and that the costs themselves may rise.
