Other prospect performances of note:
Blue Jays LHP Sean Nolin, Triple-A Buffalo: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 7 K — Locked in a pitching duel with Ranaudo (below), Nolin certainly held up his end of the bargain. The 24-year-old left-hander has impressed in his first three starts, with a 2.70 ERA, .175 average-against and 21 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings.
Red Sox RHP Anthony Ranaudo, Triple-A Pawtucket: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 5 K — Boston’s №10 prospect had given up a combined nine earned runs in his last two starts before Saturday’s gem. Control has been a concern — 10 walks in 20 2/3 innings — but wasn’t in his first six-inning outing of the season.
Red Sox C Christian Vazquez, Triple-A Pawtucket: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI, 2 K — Vazquez collected his second straight multi-hit game and caught one potential base-stealer from behind the plate. He’s thrown out seven of 12 (58.3 percent) would-be stealers thus far.
Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier, Triple-A Durham: 2-for-4, 2B, BB, R, 2 SB — The speedy outfielder, more known for his defensive prowess, stole 21 bases last year (and was thrown out 12 times) but is already 5-for-6 on the basepaths through 13 games with the Bulls.
Nationals 3B Cutter Dykstra, Double-A Hagerstown: 3-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs, 2 R — The 24-year-old infielder has homers in consecutive games after going deep only four times in 2013. He owns a .309/.367/.491 slash line through 13 games.
D-backs 3B Jake Lamb, Double-A Mobile: 1-for-3, HR, 4 RBIs — Arizona’s №7 prospect is batting only .208 in 16 games but is showing some nice pop. Seven of his 11 hits have gone for extra bases.
Cardinals OF James Ramsey, Double-A Springfield: 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs, BB, K — The 2012 first-rounder is off to a hot start down in Texas with a .386/.462/.737 line through 15 games. That’s a nice bump from his .251/.356/.424 levels over 93 games at the same level a year ago.
Yankees 3B Peter O’Brien, Class A Advanced Tampa: 3-for-7, 2 HR, 2B, 2 RBIs, 3 R — O’Brien went deep twice in the first game of a doubleheader with Daytona. He leads the FSL with six roundtrippers through 15 games.
A’s OF B.J. Boyd, Class A Beloit: 3-for-5, HR, 3 RBIs, 2 R — The A’s №12 prospect has two homers in his last three games after not going deep through his first 12 contests.
Giants RHP Kyle Crick, Double-A Richmond: 3 1/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 4 K — MLB.com’s №31 prospect has struggled mightily with control early on this season. Following Saturday’s six-walk showing, he has issued 11 free passes (to go with 14 strikeouts) in 11 innings.
