Other top prospect performances:

White Sox 3B Matt Davidson, Triple-A Charlotte: 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, R, K — Davidson was supposed to battle for an everyday gig in Chicago, but has instead struggled to hit International League pitching. He’s struck out 36 times in 22 games, and while swing-and-miss is likely to be part of his game even if he succeeds in the Majors, those kind of strikeout numbers are disheartening for Sox fans.

Indians 1B/3B Jesus Aguilar, Triple-A Columbus: 2-for-4, HR, RBI, R, BB — Aguilar has been one of the top sluggers in the International League this season and has homered on consecutive days. He’s slashing .380/.443/.709 through 21 games. Cleveland announced recently the 250-pound first baseman would also get some reps at third — he’s played once over there so far and didn’t get any chances.

Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman, Triple-A Norfolk: 4 2/3 IP, 3 H, BB, 5 K — Gausman’s thrown consecutive scoreless outings, using 75 pitches before being yanked in the fifth. Baltimore’s kept him on a short leash early in the season. The 23-year-old has an impressive 1.73 groundout-to-fly out ratio, but has also walked 11 in 21 1/3 innings.

Astros OF Domingo Santana, Triple-A Oklahoma City: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, K — The 21-year-old has put up solid numbers in his Triple-A debut despite hefty strikeout totals. He’s struck out 32 times in 23 games, but is still slashing .293/.343/.467 with a pair of homers and eight doubles. Classic right field profile with a big arm and good raw power. Also one of the youngest players in Triple-A.

[milbvideo id=”32425091" width=”480" height=”270" /]

Yankees 2B Robert Refsnyder, Double-A Trenton: 3-for-7, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB — The 23-year-old has a tremendous plate approach, posting a .413 OBP across both A-ball levels in 2013. He’s slashing .270/.349/.405 thus far.

[milbvideo id=”32421247" width=”480" height=”270" /]

Red Sox C Blake Swihart, Double-A Portland: 4-for-7, HR, 2 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI — The 22-year-old Texan is raking with the Sea Dogs, slashing .344/.354/.547 with two homers and five doubles. Trenton was 3-for-3 stealing on Swihart yesterday, although the Portland backstop has caught 33-percent of runners this season.

[milbvideo id=”32421275" width=”480" height=”270" /]

Twins 1B Kennys Vargas, Double-A New Britain: 4-for-7, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, R, K in doubleheader — Big day across two games for the big Puerto Rican slugger. The 23-year-old has warmed up after a tough start and is slashing .260/.329/.425 with three homers and three doubles so far. All three of the switch-hitter’s homers have come from the left-side of the plate.

Baltimore 1B Christian Walker, Double-A Bowie: 3-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI, K — The right-handed hitter has been on a tear of late, hitting .419 with five homers in his past 10 games. The South Carolina product has struck out 25 times in 22 games and 14 times in his past 10, so needs to improve there, but he’s doing major damage when he does connect.

Rockies RHP Eddie Butler, Double-A Tulsa: 7 2/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K — Butler racked up 12 groundouts while taking the loss for the Drillers. The hurler has a 2.87 ERA and has succeeded mostly behind a 1.62 groundout-to-fly out ratio, although he’s also struck out 25 in 31 1/3 innings.

Rangers RHP Luke Jackson, Double-A Frisco: 6 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 6 K — Another outing and another positive sign from Jackson, who thinks he’s made good strides in putting his control issues in the past. The 22-year-old has a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 27 1/3 innings and has allowed just one homer.

White Sox OF Courtney Hawkins, Class A Advanced Winston-Salem: 2-for-3, HR, 5 RBI, R — Hawkins has three homers in his past seven contests and boasts a .590 slugging percentage with six long balls through 21 games. He’s making more consistent contact than a year ago, but has still struck out 25 times and walked just five in 21 contests, so plenty of work to be done.

Mets OF Brandon Nimmo, Class A Advanced St. Lucie: 3-for-5, 2 R, RBI, SB — Nimmo has been outstanding in the two-hole for St. Lucie, slashing .393/.519/.500 with 22 walks and 19 strikeouts through 22 games. Still only 21, the left-handed hitter was supposed to be slow in developing coming out of Wyoming and has shown a feel at the plate that could help his mostly average tools play up.

Nationals 3B Drew Ward, Class A Hagerstown: 3-for-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB — Ward was under-scouted in high school because he was initially supposed to be in the 2014 Draft class, but managed to graduate a year early and fell to Washington in the third round in ’13. The 19-year-old was known to have good power, but has impressed in Class A with his overall plate approach, slashing .316/.381/.526. He’s hit his first two homers of the season in his past two games.
