Other top prospect performances:

Mariners SS Ketel Marte, Triple-A Tacoma: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, K — It signaled good things when Seattle had the confidence to bump the 20-year-old to Double-A at the start of the year despite playing only 19 games above Class A, and it’s even more encouraging that Marte performed well enough to earn a bump to the PCL. The switch-hitter has a short, contact oriented stroke from both sides that won’t generate much home run power, but even he can pop a fly ball over the wall once in a while. That’s his third of the season.

Tigers OF Steven Moya, Double-A Erie: 3-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, R — That’s homers on consecutive days and three in his past four games for the 23-year-old right fielder. Moya leads the Eastern League with 32 roundtrippers and has a .310/.336/.587 triple slash in 32 post-All-Star break games.

Pirates MIF Alen Hanson, Double-A Altoona: 3-for-4, HR, 5 RBI, 2 R — The 2014 season has been a mixed bag for Hanson, who’s gotten in trouble for on-field incidents involving his hustle and attitude while also posting some pretty strong results, including a .283/.328/.449 slash line. The Pirates have been playing him at second base some in the second half, and though his bat won’t be quite so impactful from the keystone as from shortstop, he’s looking like he could well hit enough to be an every day player at second.

Mariners 3B D.J. Peterson, Double-A Jackson: 4-for-7, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R in doubleheader — Really, Tuesday was par for the course with Peterson, who’s up to 28 homers in 11 games this season. He’s been slowed a bit jumping from the Cal League to the Southern League but still has a .257/.340/.474 line with 10 homers in 46 Double-A games.

Cubs RHP C.J. Edwards, Double-A Tennessee: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K — The season hasn’t been quite a lost year for Edwards, but it’s been close. The 22-year-old is showing some positive signs returning from some shoulder pain, though. He’s posted 11 straight scoreless innings over his past two starts and has a 1.88 ERA in six starts since coming off the DL.

Dodgers RHP Jharel Cotton, Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga: 6 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 8 K — Cotton made a tweak to his delivery prior to a start on July 22 in order to stop himself from tipping his pitches. In six starts since, he has a 1.50 ERA with 49 strikeouts and 11 walks in 36 innings. There’s probably more to his recent success than that, but man, helps when the other guys don’t know what you’re going to throw anymore.

Blue Jays LHP Jairo Labourt, Class A Short Season Vancouver: 6 IP, 7 H, BB, 9 K — The 20-year-old has been dominant with the Canadians, posting a 1.94 ERA in 13 starts with 72 strikeouts in 60 1/3 frames. The Dominican southpaw started 2014 with Class A Lansing but struggled. He should get another look at full-season ball in 2015.
