Other top prospect performances:

Dodgers OF Joc Pederson, Triple-A Albuquerque: 4-for-7, 2B, 3B, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K in two games — Pederson returned to the ‘Topes on Wednesday after missing a few weeks with a shoulder injury, but Wednesday’s game was postponed and finished Thursday. Pederson appears just fine, if the results from Thursday are any indication.

Cubs OF Jorge Soler, Double-A Tennessee: 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, BB, K — The 22-year-old Cuban has three homers in four games since returning from injury, and the fourth game was a mere pinch-hit appearance in which he walked. The outfielder showed off his power Thursday, launching this homer despite getting caught way in front and hitting the ball off the end of the bat.

Padres OF Hunter Renfroe, Double-A San Antonio: 2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R, K — The 2013 first-rounder has actually cut down on the strikeouts since jumping to Double-A while still maintaining his power stroke, bopping three homers in 42 at-bats. The 22-year-old was one of the top college bats in last year’s Draft and has hit like it this season, posting a .281/.358/.550 triple slash at two levels.

[milbvideo id=”34486101" width=”480" height=”270" /]

Yankees OF Aaron Judge, Class A Advanced Tampa: 2-for-4, HR, 3 R, RBI, BB — Judge obliterated Class A pitching to start 2014, and since a promotion to Tampa, he hasn’t slowed much. The 22-year-old has massive raw pop stretched across his 6-foot-7 frame and has shown a sharper plate approach than some anticipated. Between Charleston and Tampa, he’s slashing .320/.427/.531, and a late-season look at Double-A isn’t out of the question. He should definitely be in Trenton to start 2015 and could compete for a starting gig in New York the next year.

Astros 1B A.J. Reed, Class A Short Season Tri-City: 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R — The big first baseman may prove to be the best hitter from the 2014 Draft class. First base is his only defensive option, so he’s going to have to hit his way to the Majors, but the hit tool and power are there, as he could wind up grading out as plus in both categories.

Yankees C Luis Torrens, Class A Short Season Staten Island: 3-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 R, RBI — The Yankees have signed a few big-money international backstops, and though Torrens is following in the footsteps of Jesus Montero and Gary Sanchez, he’s a different kind of prospect. The Venezuelan has a huge arm behind the plate, but as a hitter, the hope is he’ll be a more refined line drive batsman. That’s not to say there may not be some power in his 6-foot frame, but it isn’t the same light-tower power that Montero and Sanchez have.

Royals C Chase Vallot, Rookie-level Burlington: 3-for-4, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, R, K — The 17-year-old was one of the youngest players in the 2014 Draft class but could wind up one of its best hitters. Vallot has a pretty stroke that should generate good power, and he’s worked to slim his 6-foot frame since tipping the scales a bit as a high school junior. If he can stick behind the plate, the bat should definitely play, but his defensive abilities are behind his bat at this point.
