Other top prospect performances:

D-backs SS Nick Ahmed, Triple-A Reno: 5-for-6, HR, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 3 R — Ahmed is one of the best defensive shortstops in the world, and this year, he’s finally found his stride offensively, hitting .318 with an .810 OPS. Ahmed hit .347 in May and his batting .353 in June and is forcing his way into the competition with Didi Gregorius and Chris Owings for long-term paying time at short for the D-backs.

Cubs OF Albert Almora, Class A Advanced Daytona: 3-for-5, HR, RBI, R — Almora’s had trouble getting off the ground in the Florida State League, hitting .254 with just seven walks and three homers through 66 games. The 20-year-old earns rave reviews for his makeup and is still putting a bunch of balls in play. Odds are the results will come for Almora at some point this season.

Dodgers SS Corey Seager, Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga:2-for-4, HR, 2B, R, RBI, K — Seager now has 14 homers and 28 doubles through 66 games, managing a .355/.407/.626 triple slash as one of the California League’s youngest hitters. Seager’s bat is special, and he’s making strides defensively at short. He still may not be able to stick there long term, but even if he doesn’t, he should be an excellent defender at third with a bat that plays.

Cardinals LHP Rob Kaminsky, Class A Peoria: 5 2/3 IP, 4 H, ER, 7 K — The Cardinals’ other first-round pick from the 2013 Draft is going to take a bit longer to get to the show than Michael Wacha, obviously, but he’s off to a fantastic start in the Midwest League. Over his past four starts, Kaminsky has 21 strikeouts and three walks over 23 1/3 innings. He also has yet to allow a homer in eight starts this season.

Tigers MIF Domingo Leyba, Class A Short Season Connecticut: 4-for-5, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI — The homer was the first stateside blast for Leyba, who shined in the Dominican Summer League last year as one of the more polished hitters from the 2012 J2 class. Leyba has gone 7-for-10 in his past two games with two doubles and the long ball.
