Other top prospect performances:

Red Sox RHP Matt Barnes, Triple-A Pawtucket: 5 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K — Barnes has performed well through two starts with the PawSox, managing a 1.80 ERA with eight strikeouts through 10 innings.

Twins RHP Trevor May, Triple-A Rochester: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 11 K — May has continued to tantalize at times in Triple-A, using his outstanding stuff to rack up 31 strikeouts over 24 1/3 innings. He’s only walked eight, but four of those came in his last outing on April 25, indicating there’s still work to be done improving his consistency. Still, his first five starts have all-in-all been promising.

Marlins OF Jake Marisnick, Triple-A New Orleans: 3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, R, BB — Marisnick’s tools are as loud as ever, but he’s been off to a slow start in his first stint in Triple-A. The 23-year-old has been better of late, though, hitting .308 with both of his home runs coming in his past 10 games.

Mets RHP Jacob deGrom, Triple-A Las Vegas: 5 1/3 IP, 6 H, ER, BB, 5 K — Las Vegas is supposed to be a nightmare location for pitchers, but five of deGrom’s starts have come at home and his ERA is still just 1.89 and he’s allowed just one homer in 33 1/3 innings. Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero will likely be better in the long run, but next time the Mets need to call up a starter, there’s a good chance deGrom will be their man.

Astros CF Andrew Aplin, Double-A Corpus Christi: 3-for-4, 2 2B, 3B, 2 R, BB — Aplin is one of the best defensive outfielders in the Minors, boasting outstanding range and quality reads that let him get to balls other players can only dream of touching. As former baseball internet celebrity and current Astros director of player development Kevin Goldstein told me last fall, the real test with Aplin was to see if he could handle Double-A pitching. Well, he’s slashing .309/.442/.415 with a 15-to-23 K/BB in 94 at-bats. There’s still work to do, but Aplin is looking more and more like a name to know.

Marlins C J.T. Realmuto, Double-A Jacksonville: 3-for-4, 2 2B, 3B, 2 R, RBI — Miami’s pitchers rave about the way Realmuto calls games and communicates, and his defensive skills should get him to the big leagues on their own. His offense has been just as good this year, as he’s slashing .321/.376/.536 through 22 games.

Royals 3B Hunter Dozier, Class A Advanced Wilmington: 3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, R — Dozier’s cut down on the strikeouts over his past 10 games, whiffing just five times in 10 games after punching out 15 times in his first 12. The result has been a .412/.500/.529 triple slash in that time. The homer Thursday was his first with Wilmington.

Indians OF Clint Frazier, Class A Lake County: 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, 2 K — First full-season homer for Frazier. The 19-year-old has struck out 15 times in his first 14 games but has also drawn eight walks while batting .226.

Marlins 2B Avery Romero, Class A Greensboro: 2-for-2, HR, RBI, R, 2 BB — Avery’s a small second baseman (5-foot-8, 190 pounds) with a knack for hitting but is still developing his skills at second. Slashing .284/.336/.402 through 24 games.

Pirates SS JaCoby Jones, Class A West Virginia: 1-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 , 3 BB, K — Jones played outfield and infield at LSU and was drafted last summer as a toolsy but unrefined college product. He’s off to a promising start, slashing .310/.386/.460 while playing short every day for the Power.
