Other top prospect performances:

Tigers RHP Drew VerHagen, Triple-A Toledo: 7 IP, 5 H, BB, 5 K — The 23-year-old has strung together a few nice starts in a row now. The Vanderbilt product is inducing ground balls and avoiding walks and homers, and could contribute at the back of a Major League rotation.

Astros 1B Jon Singleton, Triple-A Oklahoma City: 0-for-2, R, 4 BB — Singleton’s only hit three homers this month but also has 16 walks and 13 strikeouts in 17 May games. The plate discipline is a pleasant surprise for the slugging 22-year-old, who was featured in our Prospect Stock Watch on Wednesday.

Cubs SS Javier Baez, Triple-A Iowa: 2-for-4, 2 2B — Signs of life from Chicago’s prized prospect. Baez has hit safely in five straight games, including four extra-base hits.

Red Sox LHP Brian Johnson, Double-A Portland: 6 IP, 4H, ER, BB, 6 K — Johnson was coming off his first rocky start in the Eastern League, walking five at New Britain on May 15. He rediscovered his control Monday and now has a 2.01 ERA through four starts.

Orioles 1B Christian Walker, Double-A Bowie: 2-for-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, R, BB — Walker’s become something of a regular in this roundup thanks to his 10 homers and .324 average. The South Carolina product has a ways to go to prove his bat is worthy of an MLB first base job, but he can’t do much more in the Eastern League to make his case.

Yankees C Peter O’Brien, Double-A Trenton: 2-for-4, HR, 2 R, RBI, K — The barrage continues for the 23-year-old who now has 17 homers split between the Eastern and Florida State Leagues. He, too, was featured in Wednesday’s Prospect Stock Watch.

Royals 3B Hunter Dozier, Class A Advanced Wilmington: 3-for-3, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB — It’s been an up-and-down campaign for Dozier, who started cold, got hot, cooled off again, and now may be heating up once more. The 2013 first-rounder has shown an excellent eye with 25 walks and .371 on-base percentage in 41 games but has just two homers and a .246 average.

Twins RHP Kohl Stewart, Class A Cedar Rapids: 6 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 3 K — The 2013 first-rounder racked up 10 groundouts in the outing and now has a 2.21 ERA through eight Midwest League starts.

Brewers C Clint Coulter, Class A Wisconsin: 3-for-3, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB — Wrote last week about some of the improvements Coulter has made since struggling in an injury-plagued 2013 season.
