Other top prospect performances:

Pirates OF Willy Garcia, Double-A Altoona: 3-for-4, 2 HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 3 R, K — The 21-year-old has cut down on the strikeouts and found his power stroke in May, slugging .565 this month with four homers and five doubles.

Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, Double-A Tennessee: 3-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI, R, 2 BB, SB — Bryant has looked like the complete package with the Smokies, slashing .335/.431/.623 through 45 games. Could be ready for a test at Triple-A soon.

Twins OF Adam Brett Walker II, Class A Advanced Fort Myers: 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R — Walker’s a big, strong kid who could fit the prototypical right field mold if he can cut down on the strikeouts. Thursday’s performance was a good sign, although Walker had struck out 14 times over his previous nine games entering the day.

Braves 2B Jose Peraza, Class A Advanced Lynchburg: 3-for-4, 3B, 2 R, RBI, BB, SB — Peraza’s swiped 22 bases in 28 tries and is slashing .330/.360/.422 through 43 games. The Venezuelan doesn’t pack much punch, but has a good linedrive stroke and makes consistent contact.

Padres OF Hunter Renfroe, Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore: 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, K — Renfroe has nine long balls on the year and is slashing .266/.343/.505. The Mississippi State product has also cut down on the strikeouts tremendously since the start of the season, striking out 40 times in April and just 17 times so far in May.

Rockies SS Patrick Valaika, Class A Advanced Modesto: 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, K — The book on Valaika coming out of UCLA was that he was an instinctive player with good makeup but that he lacked the tools offensively and defensively to standout at shortstop. The 2013 ninth-rounder has raked as a pro, though, posting a .983 OPS in 34 games with Asheville and now beginning his Cal League career going 8-for-17.

Cubs RHP Paul Blackburn, Class A Kane County: 7 IP, 4 H, 6 K — The 20-year-old has put last year’s control problems in the past, walking just eight through 49 1/3 innings. He also boasts a 2.37 ERA and 1.43 groundout-to-flyout ratio.

Cardinals LHP Rob Kaminsky, Class A Peoria: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, BB, 9 K — An excellent outing for the 19-year-old, who now boasts a 1.83 ERA through four starts.
