Probably the last paradise for your smartphotos — and your real vacations

It’s ok you don’t know it yet. Or even have some difficulty finding it on the world map. I’ll help you: it’s an island, it’s closer to Africa than to Portugal, its mainland territory. In english, “Porto Santo” means Holy Port, and as soon as you arrive there, the why is clear.

Have you ever heard of Madeira? A tropical and flowery island full of natural attractions, natural pools and unbelievably good food? Porto Santo is a smaller island, and it belongs to the Madeira Archipel. You can arrive at Porto Santo by boat or by plane, but never by car. No, it’s not a challenge. Just, please, don’t.
As good as Madeira in terms of weather and food, Porto Santo has the precious beaches I dream of having all year long. Soft sand, warm water, peace.

Why am I writing this? (No, it’s not a sponsored post.)
The reason is quite simple: I moved to Canada a year ago. All the people I got to know since then have been asking me about Portugal (or other destinations, as travelling is something I do quite often). However, it seems everything suddenly is instagrammably made for plastic tourism, and I dislike to advise that to anyone. I’m from Porto, I’ve lived in Lisbon for fifteen years, I love my cities, but they are so touristic right now I have a rough time making plans for all my friends who ask me for alternative tips. But then the social media continues to show me this hotel where I’ve been so happy with my friends for a whole week of paradise. And I think to myself: why not sharing (probably) the last secret and perfect place to vacation? When Porto Santo becomes full and unbearable, it’ll be your turn to share another gem with me. Until then, enjoy it!

PS — I cannot stress enough on how this hotel is perfect. They even take you to five stars restaurants on the island for free. It’s ridiculously good.
