Recently I moved to the States. But you know what didn’t move? My job. I was extremely proud — after all, who gets to jump across the pond and maintain their position?

Thrilled with the joys of remote work (I’m a proper nomad now!) and discoveries of my new living environment, I forgot to think realistically: what will this mean? Bummer: it means no work-life balance. Working with a team that’s six hours ahead of you is not all that great.

Not all is gold that looks like it

Millennials grew up with some serious perfectionistic standards. When it comes to work, we’re brutal. Overtime, weekends, unexpected business trips — everything was fair game. That’s the mindset. And because of it, this new work arrangement seemed more than fine.

But as time went on, my self-esteem and work satisfaction plummeted. Saying that I’m exhausted and stressed out doesn’t do justice. Logically, I sniffed around to see career opportunities where I live. The States has a huuuuuuge talent pool working remotely. That being said — competition is crazy. Hundreds of people applying for the same job, what are the chances?..
