why we strive to hide our truth,
when it hurts or when it’s bright?
once, it is to simply soothe
our loved ones from our fight.

or to hide our own success,
fearing we will let them down.
fearing they will feel they’re less
than we are, right now.

why is it not taught enough
that it’s brave to speak things up?
being vulnerable? tough.
if you can, you’ve grown up.

if you can, it means you trust,
both yourself and those around.
then you see through their crust.
you’ve connected, you are bound.

when you’re bound, you chose your tribe,
share the lows, the highs, belong.
that’s in our souls inscribed.
opening your soul is strong.
