Double Standards

I was born female.

I didn’t have a say in the matter.

You were born male.

Despite you didn’t have a say in the matter, you think your gender makes you superior.

Why is this so?

I think that I know.

I am trying my hardest not to see you as a foe.

But your need to try to assert control of me has got to go.

My life is my seed to grow.

I don’t need your approval.

Never did, never will.

Seeing you for who you are tells me how to feel.

But here’s the deal.

I am woman and proud.

Anything you could do, so can I.

I will not hide the person I am inside.

I love being a woman as you love being a man.

I just need you to understand.

My choices are mine and your opinions don’t matter.

I don’t care how your image of me shatters.

Save your double standards for someone who cares.

Because I never will.
