Going Off

“There, there,” you tell yourself

And everyone else does too,

Both those who’ve done it

And those who haven’t.

***

All seems the same

After so many jobs

And life lessons learned.

Still, leaving home’s a big step.

***

Coming to a grip on life

Is not the easiest:

Young, old, or in between,

It’s a jolt, but I don’t get it…

***

Not yet anyway.

But the day is coming,

I think, when it shall.

Off I am, but dashing or drooping

***

I cannot yet tell.

All happens so fast.

While the days be long,

The weeks pass in haste.

***

And now comes the hour,

An hour of “higher education”

Which seems attached

To strife, struggles, studies…

***

But the benefits of a degree,

You see, along with new friends,

Makes it all worth it

And leaving, hopefully, means I must return…
