Moments

Doing an act filled with goodness
Has its own bewitching power
The joy and fulfillment that follows
Sustains and doesn’t easily turn sour

Where do I find the strength
To continue thriving
In an outer and inner world full of contradictions
My heart is merely surviving

I need to discover that strength though
And somehow keep it alive
Because I may have decreased my pain
But in this process, I also lost my drive

People say it’s a good thing
To be rational and plan
The mind isn’t your best friend though
So why give it all the glam?

It’s the wandering of an idle mind
And the laziness of a comforted body
That is making me emote
Otherwise where would I find the time
To just smile and write such odes

Accepting each moment in all its wonderfulness
Including the negative aspects too
Teaches us a lot about reality
And is something one should learn to do

Because a collection of these moments is what defines our future
And each of us has a part to play
Only if we accept the opportunity
To take our place on the stage

This world stage is known to us
And we eventually figure out our part
But the battle between the heart and the mind
Is what tears us apart

Sometimes there won’t even be a battle
Because with time, we silence our inner voice
To realize when you stop hearing it
Recognize, that each moment is a choice

A choice to be in the present
A choice to appreciate the now
A choice to be aware of your thoughts and emotions
And a choice to act on your vow

Every moment can be an inspiration
In which you see beauty all around
But we choose to look the other way
And stick ourselves on a merry-go-round

So step down from the carousel
And see the twinkling stars
Before you know, your story will end
Along with the desires in your wishing jar

Use this power of choice in each moment
To create and destroy
It would be enough to keep you thriving
And build a world of joy
