Happy Friday! MAP’s Five on Friday kicks off the weekend by sharing five things we loved this week. This week, we’re celebrating the launch of our Democracy Reform Task Force with a special edition democracy reform Five on Friday. Join in with us by sharing five things you’re loving in the comments below!

{{№1: Highlighting}}

Our Democracy Reform Task Force is made up of a bipartisan group of twelve diverse, young legislators from across the country who have taken an active role in making government more transparent and accessible to young people in their state. We’re excited to have these bright, young minds sharing ideas and collaborating to create a report of best practices at the end of the year.

{{№2. Reading}}

This piece from The Atlantic isn’t only a great run-down of the history behind Ohio’s redistricting plan, but also an interesting take on the broader implications of this bipartisan reform. We’re optimistic that this is only the beginning of making government fair to all citizens and MAP’s Democracy Reform Task Force is working to continue this type of bipartisan progress in 2018.

{{№3: Watching}}

Democracy Reform Task Force member Ohio Senator Frank LaRose has led the effort to find bipartisan solutions to the state’s gerrymandered congressional districts. Check out his quick explanation of the state’s historic new bipartisan redistricting reform.

{{№4: Discovering}}

Our staff pick this week comes from MAP’s Program Coordinator Caroline Dvorsky. Caroline says, “FiveThirtyEight recently released an amazing interactive map about redistricting and gerrymandering. The maps allow you to deep dive into every congressional district in the country. I think this is particularly important and timely given the redistricting cases that are occurring across the country.”

{{№5: Quoting}}

See what our Democracy Reform Task Force members are saying about what they hope to accomplish this year working with legislators from across the country to make government more accessible, functional, and transparent.
