Happy Friday! MAP’s Five on Friday kicks off the weekend by sharing five things we loved this week. Join in with us by sharing five things you’re loving in the comments below!

{{№1: Reading}}

This week we’re reading about millennial women in politics and the unique set of challenges they face. Check out this NPR article highlighting political newcomers running for office– how women are breaking away from stereotypes and building credibility as candidates.

{{№2: Contemplating}}

This story about a software engineer who let a computer algorithm temporarily run his life caught our eyes on Medium this week. Max Hawkins let the algorithm tell him where to live, what to do daily, and even what tattoo to get. Hawkins’ story begs the question: should we let algorithms and artificial intelligence play a bigger role in our lives?

{{№3: Highlighting}}

“We deserve more: a government in which we truly all have a voice.” MAP’s own Congressional Future Caucus member Representative Eric Swalwell put out an article this week on making elections fair again. As a staunch supporter of campaign finance reform, Representative Swalwell voices his concerns and calls for an end to partisan gerrymandering.

{{№4: Watching}}

With all the controversy over our current immigration policies, young people from all over the country are equipping themselves with the legal tools they need to make change. This week, Time’s short video calls attention to the massive increase in students studying immigration law over the past year.

{{№5: Celebrating}}

The United States turned 242 on Wednesday! This week we’re reflecting on the intentions of our founding fathers (and mothers!) as well as looking towards the future. A new generation of leaders is rising up to pursue and uphold the liberty that makes the U.S. great.
