Happy Friday! MAP’s Five on Friday kicks off the weekend by sharing five things we loved this week. Join in with us by sharing five things you’re loving in the comments below!

{{№1: Listening}}

We’re loving this new bipartisan playlist from Rep. Doug Collins and Future Caucus Member Rep. Hakeem Jeffries. Rep. Collins, a republican from Georgia, and Rep. Jeffries, a democrat from New York, sponsored the Music Modernization Act together and formed a friendship along the way. Inspired by their different backgrounds, their playlist is a blend of old school hip-hop and more recent hits–the perfect soundtrack to a hot summer day.

{{№2: Highlighting}}

This week we’re inspired by millennial and political newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who won the New York Democratic primary over 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley. Ocasio-Cortez’s win is symbolic of what millennials can achieve with hard work and drive. Regardless of what side of the aisle you’re on, seeing young people as energized and motivated as Ocasio-Cortez is encouraging.

{{№3: Celebrating}}

On Tuesday, the bipartisan Senate Education Committee voted unanimously to favorably report the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. The bill would allow states to set their own goals for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs without negotiating them with the U.S. Department of Education and help ensure that CTE programs are adequately preparing students for their future careers.

“It’s one that really has a lot of potential to really solve a lot of problems for this country,” said Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo, a member of the Education Committee. Since higher education and a strong workforce are issues we’re passionate about, we love seeing both sides of the aisle working together on them.

{{№4: Reading}}

Ever feel like your newsfeed is cluttered with hyper-partisan articles and you can’t seem to distinguish the facts from the fiction? This week we’re reading an article about what’s happening at the border from The Bipartisan Policy Center, an organization that works to deliver news without bias. Check out their explainer about the recent immigration executive order signed by President Trump.

Recently Mississippi Future Caucus Co-Chair Jeramey Anderson was featured on an ABC broadcast of The Now in Denver, CO. Revolving around millennials running for congress, the segment features 26-year-old Rep. Anderson as one of the youngest members of any state assembly. Currently, the average age of Congressional members is 60 years old, while the average American is 20 years younger. However, the 263 millennials currently running for congress are hoping to change that.
