The Cycle of Injustice Begins Again

As protesters block the interstate in Sacramento, I can already picture what will happen to Stephon Clark's murderers.

They'll be suspended WITH pay.

There will be an "internal review" and if there is enough pressure, the DOJ will open an investigation.

The media will try to smear the victim, using threatening-looking pictures and finding any dirt they can to justify his death.

With enough outrage, there is a tiny chance of indictments and maybe a trial.

The officers will say that it was dark and hard to see.

They will say the victim looked "suspicious".

They will say that they thought the cell phone was a gun.

They will say that they feared for their lives.

They will be found NOT GUILTY.

There will be massive protests.

There will be riot police to repress and arrest peaceful protesters.

The family will sue the city and win a settlement that can't replace the life that was taken from them.

There will be no justice again.

How do we break a cycle that sends unarmed black and brown people to their graves and allows their murderers to continue walking the streets with loaded guns?
