Do’s and don’ts for Welcome emails

  • Do send your email immediately after a user subscribes. Use marketing automation while your brand is still on their mind.
  • Don’t cram everything into one Welcome email. Split your welcome emails into a Welcome series so you’re not giving users too much to do at once.
  • Do personalise your Welcome email subject lines. Personalised subject lines are around 26% more likely to be opened.
  • Don’t fail to deliver your promise. If you’ve said you’ll give someone a discount when they sign up, make sure you give it to them in their Welcome email. Failing to do so will give subscribers a reason to not trust your brand and unsubscribe.
  • Do set expectations. Let subscribers know what they can expect to receive.
  • Don’t forget about it, constantly review your Welcome emails to see what’s working and what isn’t so you can continually refine and improve your approach.
