Happy Friday the 13th everybody! Even though it’s an unlucky day, at least it’s Friday!

Alpha:

The focus of this week has been stability and consistency. We improved our Ethereum node monitoring systems to better detect indicators of bad synchronization state. Consistent and timely detection of bad sync state is important for ensuring that worker clients can react appropriately to poor peering and eclipse attacks. During startup, worker clients now recover 100% of their associated blockchain state (e.g. whether or not the client currently has stake locked) from the blockchain. Previous iterations used a local cache file to track some state. This file could become out of sync if a client was unexpectedly terminated during specific operations. We also reworked a number of key smart-contract data structures to allow for full off-chain iteration. Full iteration of contract state is key to addressing a number of potential race-conditions that exist in purely event-based monitoring schemes, and also reduces the complexity of migrating state between smart-contracts during updates.
