Discussing Eth-Mail Alpha launch and updates to Eth-Watch

Developer Update:

Eth-Mail

Last week saw our first major software release with the live Alpha of Eth-Mail. Since release, we have been working on upgrading angular to version 6, giving the users the option to save Drafts, and, more globally speaking, making Eth-Mail more user-friendly by tweaking various design elements here and there.

As of this version of the Alpha, MIMIR can still see the username of message recipients. We need that to be able to properly deliver the message. In the upcoming iteration, we are making it so that MIMIR will only be able to see the hash of the username. This will prevent us from knowing what the username is, because of the nature of one-way hashing function.

Eth-Watch

On the Eth-Watch front, we’re working on extending capabilities to include watching ERC20 contract transfers. Soon, you will be able to observe token transfers both to and from your account inside of ERC20 smart contracts. This will allow you to not only be notified when Ether is transferred, but you will also have the option to be notified when you send or receive tokens based on ERC20 contracts. This is the first of many additions we are planning for Eth-Watch. The list keeps growing.

We’ve also worked to make Eth-Watch more resilient and available by transforming our codebase and utilizing AWS Lambdas (or a server-less approach) to ensure a better uptime and fault tolerance. With less points of failure, we expect Eth-Watch to be more reliable and stable, making for an overall better user experience.

Recent Events:

In June, CTO, Hunter Prendergast, was able to attend Blockchain Bash in Philadelphia where he gave the keynote and taught a course on Solidity. Returning from the event, Prendergast said it was, “one of the best conferences I’ve attended because it was both community- and developer-focused. You don’t always find that. It was refreshing to both teach and learn in such an environment.”

Upcoming Events:

August 6–10 > Geek Week, Atlanta, Georgia.
Hunter will be giving a keynote talk during Geek Week in August.
