Mimo56 is an experimental interaction design lab started by three friends — Prakhar, Swati, and Gaurav at Bangalore in 2015. They met during their post graduate studies at Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology in 2013. Though they had distinct personalities and objectives, their thoughts often synchronized. Over the two years in Srishti, their bond grew stronger, and they came across the idea to build their collective. This way, Mimo56 was born.

Prakhar Ojha

Innovator/Anthropologist — he thinks stories make us, and he is trying to write one.

Prakhar since his childhood, he was fascinated with stories. How one see, listen and feel stories through the languages, cultures, arts, and mediums of their times and they form the reality. Most of his childhood was engrossed in movies and games. He started to grow and so his questions and curiosity. There were not enough things to satisfy that constant urge. A lot of stuff that once excited him were falling dead on logics and intentions. It led to boredom and discontent. All his practices and subjects anchor to that one fear of not to feel bored and discontent again. Soon the questions emerged from similar patterns that he was going in. Later these things started taking shape and then shapes started falling into place with other things that were around.

“Design is a constant urge to make things right and natural. And as humans, we have a responsibility to not just us, but everything. To use everything to its abilities to form a system, like all our “gods” made it together.”

Prakhar Ojha is now an experience and interaction design practitioner, currently working as a UX/UI engineer @ Tarams. He is a post graduate in Human centered design and multidisciplinary innovation (a framework for contemporary holistic solutions) and a graduate in electrical engineering. He has practiced and worked UX+UI for web & mobile based businesses as a student, an employee and sometimes, as an independent maker. His prime areas of interest are storytelling and narratives, psychology/cognitive sciences and ethnography.

Swati Sharma

Questioner — observes Matter and its Interactions, and seeks Utopia in Dystopia.

As a child, she always wanted to excel, kept on practicing or rather copying art till it was as she could see. Science allowed her to experience what was not seen through naked eyes. These possibilities in science, and how it enabled to build, create and observe details inspired her. Organically, her interest grew stronger, and she chose her career in Engineering. To her dismay, teaching methods used during engineering were not to the mark. She started to search options which focused on the depths, whys, and hows. This eventually led her to pursue post graduation in a field that combines her various interests.

“Design is an expression of our better selves. It is boundless when defined. It is never perfect but simply, a better version of today. No body owns the design, but it embraces us all.”

Swati studied Electronic, Instrumentation, and Control Engineering in her graduation and Post graduation in Innovation and Experience Design. Her interests lie in teaching methods, healthcare beyond clinical settings, design, and study of flora and fauna, sustainability and life beyond earth. She likes to document life as is awaiting her alien friends.

Gaurav Singh

Researcher — thinks and live Algorithms, and Maths is his language to decode and design.

Gaurav always had an affinity towards Science and Maths. And early exposure to computers in his childhood just added more to this interest. Computer Programming amuses him to the core. It was like an information explosion in his head, almost like a new found superpower. Soon enough, he knew what he wanted to do.

“Our world is unavoidably complex. And to design is not to avoid complexity but to embrace complexity. The process of design deals with this complexity and translates it into illusion of simplicity.”

After school, he did his graduation in Computer Science & Engineering and later on Post graduation in Innovation and Experience Design. From an independent full stack programmer, he is evolving his practice towards research in the field of computer science and mathematics. He teaches Interaction Design and Programming at Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Bangalore and runs Mathscapes — a CS/Maths Research Lab. His research interest spans across Human Computer Interaction, Prime Numbers, Lossless Data Compression, Artificial Intelligence, Automata and Dynamic Programming.
