Everyone has complex issues and personal struggles that can hold us back from achieving our goals. Whether it’s difficulty in making decisions, fear of the unknown, or general anxiety, these personal issues can be difficult to overcome. Fortunately, some psychological tricks can help us conquer our complexes and move forward with a more positive outlook on life.

Recognize the source of your complexes

One of the first things you can do to overcome your complexes is to recognize the source of your struggles. This is important because you can’t overcome something if you don’t know what you’re actually trying to overcome.

When you recognize the source of your complexes, you can recognize the internal dialogue you have that causes you to act in certain ways. Once you recognize the internal dialogue, you can then work on changing your dialogue so that you can overcome your complexes.

So, how do you recognize the source of your complexes? Well, there are a few things you can do. One thing you can do is reflect on your past. Think about where your complexes may have originated from.

  • What was your childhood like?
  • Were there any traumatic events that may have caused your complexes?
  • How were you raised?
  • Were there any parenting styles or practices that may have attributed to your complexes?

Change the way you think

One of the best things you can do to overcome your complexes is to change the way you think. If you have complexes, you have been thinking negatively for a long time and that’s not something that goes away quickly. So, when you’re trying to change the way you think, you’re trying to change a deeply rooted part of yourself.

It’s important to understand that when you’re trying to change the way you think, it’s not just going to happen overnight. So, when you’re trying to change the way you think, you have to try new things and get out of your comfort zone whenever you can.

Another important thing to do when trying to change the way you think is to find ways to reduce stress and anxiety in your life. Stress and anxiety can often cause you to think negatively and if you don’t address those issues, you won’t be able to change the way you think.

Practice mindfulness and self-care

Another important thing to do when trying to overcome your complexes is to practice mindfulness and self-care. When you’re trying to overcome your complexes, you’re going to be constantly challenged and stressed out. And, it’s during those times when you have to be able to ground yourself and take a step back from the situation. It’s important to practice mindfulness when you can.

One way to practice mindfulness is to simply take a moment to focus on your breathing. When you’re stressed out or anxious, one of the first things that get put on the back burner is your breathing, and focusing on it can help you to calm down and refocus your thoughts.

Another important thing to do when you’re trying to overcome your complexes is to take care of yourself. When you take care of yourself, you can maintain your mental health and reduce stress and anxiety. It’s important to make time for yourself and do the things that recharge your batteries.

Meditation or listening to a CBT audio session in the Sensera app can help improve your mental health. Taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Adopt a growth mindset

When you’re trying to overcome your complexes, it’s important to adopt a growth mindset. A growth mindset is one where you believe that your abilities and skills can be developed and improved upon.

A growth mindset is a crucial thing to have when trying to overcome your complexes because it allows you to challenge yourself and try new things even when you aren’t at your best. When you have a growth mindset, you aren’t afraid to fail, you are simply afraid of not trying. It’s important to remember that everyone has their off days and everyone struggles.

Practice visualization techniques

Another thing you can do to overcome your complexes is to practice visualization techniques. When you can visualize yourself overcoming your complexes, it can help to give you the confidence you need to move forward. There are a few visualization techniques that you can use to help you overcome your complexes.

  • ‘If then’ technique. In this technique, you imagine yourself in a situation where you would normally struggle and then you imagine yourself overcoming that situation.
  • ‘Imagined success’ technique. In this technique, you imagine yourself succeeding at something that you normally struggle with. You can even try to imagine how you feel once you have overcome your struggle.
  • ‘Repeated words’ technique. In this technique, you repeat a positive affirmation over and over again in your head to help you to overcome your struggle.

Make a plan for facing your fears

You can overcome your complexes by making a plan for facing your fears. If you have a fear that is holding you back, it’s important to know when to take action and face that fear. You don’t want to wait until you’re completely ready to face your fears because that could take a long time. You want to challenge yourself when you’re ready but not when you’re too ready. That way, you will build confidence in yourself and you will be able to move forward with your goals.

Use positive affirmations

Self-talk is a good indicator of how you’ll feel in the future. When you talk down to yourself and treat yourself like you’re not capable or worthy of success, you are likely to end up feeling that way in real life. On the other hand, when you treat yourself with positivity and confidence, you are likely to see those things happen in your life as well.

Positive affirmations are a good way to start treating yourself better and building up your self-confidence. For example, if you have trouble making decisions, you might want to make a positive affirmation like, “I easily make good decisions” or “My decisions are always the best ones for me”. If you have anxiety or feel generally stressed out and worried, you can make an affirmation like, “I am calm and relaxed” or “I let go of worry and stress”.

Surround yourself with positive people

The people that you surround yourself with can have a huge impact on your life. Some people may be toxic and encourage you to continue with bad habits and negative thinking. Others, however, may be positive and supportive and encourage you to keep moving forward toward your goals. If you can find a positive group of people to surround yourself with, you’ll likely find that you’re more motivated to succeed and less likely to give up when things get tough.

Take action and be consistent

Taking action and being consistent is generally easier said than done. If you have some issues that have been holding you back or holding you down, though, it can be helpful to think of them in a physical sense.

If you have a fear of public speaking or talking to people, for example, you can think of the anxiety that you feel as a heavy weight pressing down on you. By taking action and pushing through that anxiety, you can lift that weight off of yourself and move forward in your life.

By thinking about your issues more physically, you can make it easier to take action and be consistent in your attempts to overcome those issues and move forward toward your goals and dreams.
