10 Ways to Get to the Gym When You Don’t Feel Like It

Let’s face it — you aren’t always motivated to go to the gym.

I’m not either, and I’m a personal trainer! I’ll be honest with you — there are days where it’s actually more difficult for me to want to exercise. After all, it’s my job to be at the gym for hours. So when I’m not on the clock, I often don’t feel like sticking around for my own 90-minute workout.

But over the last several years, I’ve found ways to bypass the inevitable lack of motivation we all feel. I’ve tried these tips myself, and I’ve also seen them work for many of my clients, so I know they work.

So, let’s jump right in! Here are 10 tricks that can help you get a workout in, even when you aren’t in the mood.

1. Go for 5 Minutes

Getting to the gym is (usually) the hardest part. Once you’re there, it’s not that hard to get into a rhythm and do what your thing.

If you’re struggling to get to the gym, get yourself there on the promise that you can leave after five minutes. Walk inside, get on one machine, then turn around and leave.

Sure, this is a psychological trick, because that five-minute workout often turns into a half-hour sweat session. But even if you do end up leaving after five minutes, look at what you’ve created…
