3 Practices Our Parents Ignored — and Why They’re More Relevant Than Ever
The times have changed, and we have to change with them.

In a general sense, our parents are twice our age.
This has been the usual situation for generations. Every parent tries their best to connect with their children despite the big age gap — however, only some succeed, and the rest fail.
The challenge is that it takes a long time to see if certain rules and habits work. When we figure out what works, it’s often too late to apply it with our kids.
For that reason, below are 3 things your parents never practiced or taught you but are important for you to learn today.
Let’s get started.
1. Media Literacy
Actual advancements in technology began after 1822.
- Computer: 1822
- Mobile phones: 1973
- Internet: 1983
- Smartphones: 1992
If you look closely, all these technologies came one after one, and it’s indeed easier to imagine that they weren’t accessible to the masses back then. Even if it was, not many people knew how to operate them.
Our parents weren’t technology geeks.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that you shouldn’t. Nowadays, technology is everywhere, from online shopping to cryptocurrencies. It's important to know about online apps, safety, online hazards, and privacy protection to keep up with the times.
2. Stimulation learning
Some stimulating learning methods we know today didn’t exist a few decades back. This includes:
- Concentration music, aka brainwave entertainment
- Gamification
- Virtual reality
These methods are constantly changing.
Our parents grew up in simpler times, with just notebooks and street lamps. It’s tough for them to understand these new ways of learning because they never used them.
But let’s not forget one thing: these methods can help us concentrate better.
