It sounds so easy. To be happy, all you need to do is focus on the present moment. This is the essence of mindfulness, but most of us find it difficult.

Our minds are constantly bombarded with information and distractions from the outside world, as well as our internal thoughts, worries, and feelings.

In this environment, it’s not easy to switch off, unplug and be mindful, but there are some things you can do to bring the practice of mindfulness into your daily life.

Here are five easy steps to living a more mindful life.

1. Check-in with Yourself First Thing in the Morning

When you first wake up, notice how you’re feeling. What thoughts are going through your mind? Try not to judge your feelings and thoughts, just become aware of them.

Bring your awareness into your body as you lie in bed. Do any areas of your body feel tired, stiff, painful or uncomfortable? If so, become aware of your breath and imagine you’re breathing into the uncomfortable or painful area(s) of the body. This type of gentle awareness often eases the pain or discomfort.

2. Eat Lunch Mindfully
