5 Signs of a Person Who Just Isn’t Worth It
I hate toxic people.
Fake people are my kryptonite. They are the real vampires, the energy vacuums that leave me empty.
Some people just aren’t worth it. I got burned a few times before I learned. Quality friendships make you happier, healthier and help you live longer. Bad friends do the opposite.
The one-way street effect
This will sound counterintuitive.
If you ask someone to do you a favor, it will make them like you more.
Why? We tend to do favors for people we like. Our brain wants our actions and beliefs to align. Otherwise, it creates mental conflict — cognitive dissonance — often manifested as guilt.
Asking for a favor makes a person feel chosen. They’ll feel better about themselves for having done charity and their brain will convince them to like you.
However — the generosity test cuts in many angles.
It’s a bad sign when an acquaintance will do more for you than a long-time friend. That’s when you know a friend is a dud.
You’ve helped this person for years. Now, when you need help on one minor thing, they are churning out excuses, “Oh sorry, my schedule is full.”
