It’s tempting to copy what successful people do, even though it may not work for everyone.

What about the other side of the coin? Are there secrets buried under the dirt? Lazy people aren’t perfect models for behavior, but they still offer useful insights without knowing it.

They inadvertently set great boundaries

People’s inability to set boundaries with family and coworkers is proven to cause more conflict and reduce efficiency.

This is especially dangerous when there is ambiguity and power dynamics at work, and it’s not clear who is in charge of who.

One of my coworkers did a masterful job of protecting his time and energy, and it was mostly because of laziness. He was a graphic designer and a talented one at that.

Anytime a product manager tried to push a deadline that was unrealistic (“unrealistic” really just translated to him working late) — he said firmly, “Sorry we can’t do it. We are so slammed with this and this and this.”

He wasn’t slammed.

To some degree, you have to give him credit. He wasn’t being paid great money and corporations love to milk…
