7 Laws of Human Decency
Everyone deserves a chance.
Omar was having the best worst week of his life. It wasn’t so much about how he was acting, but rather how others were acting toward him. People were really getting on his nerves. They were being rude, mean, and downright inhumane.
But Omar is an optimist. He’s got a growth mindset. So, after the initial shock and disdain for human behavior he’d witnessed, he decided to take a step back and learn from each situation.
What he discovered were the 7 laws of human decency.
1. Don’t be loud in a quiet place.
Omar works in a tall building. It’s not a skyscraper, but it has enough floors to need three well-functioning elevators. The elevators fit about four people comfortably, but during the morning rush, double the amount squeeze into the tiny enclosed space.
On Monday morning Omar rode the elevator, rubbing up against three others, when all of a sudden, it jolted, and then stopped. Some considerate, light whispering ensued between presumably coworkers, but the group was otherwise silent. Until one man lifted his phone to his ear knocking a few people along the way, tapped some buttons, and proceeded to tell the entire elevator what everybody already knew.
