A Simple Challenge to Improve Relational Communication
A 7-day task.
Allow me to cut right to the chase.
Relational communication is a fancy way of saying how you communicate in any kind of social interaction — be it family, friends, dates or strangers.
The number one piece of advice I’ve deduced after thousands of hours studying this topic, is to be curious. It’s to listen more than you speak. It’s to ask questions.
But recently, I had somebody ask me how to actually do this. They told me it sounds so simple in theory, but how do you actually know if you’re doing a good job of this? How do you know if your questions outweigh your statements? If somebody asks you a question, what are you supposed to do?
For people severely struggling with relational communication, the challenge is simple.
Count.
A 7-Day Challenge to Improve Relational Communication
Over a one week span, in which you’re likely to have various forms of communication, whether it be professional, personal, causal, or romantic, make an effort to keep track. Count two things:
1. The number of statements you make
2. The number of questions you ask
